BARRA ALTA, a very small tapas restaurant in Barcelona. But possibly the best tapas I have ever eaten. Small restaurant in a side street, you could walk right past it. Luckily, the taxi took me right to the door. Completely full, whether I minded sitting at the small bar near the open kitchen, where chef César Guillén was working with his staff. Imagine how glad I was with that fully reserved restaurant!
I was alone and decided to give the chef every freedom. It became a series of beautiful dishes in which Catalunya shone, with the occasional cheeky Asian sidestep. With good reason a Michelin listing. As far as I am concerned, a 9,5 on a scale of 10!
It became an absolute feast with far too many dishes, but it became a good reason to allow myself the long walk across Barcelona back to the hotel.
